National Honor Society

“The National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation’s premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, and character.”

Newark Charter School inducted the first members of our chapter of the NHS in the fall of 2015.

Eligibility

Students who have a cumulative unweighted GPA of at least a 3.5 for 9th and 10th grade are eligible to apply to Newark Charter School Chapter of National Honor Society in the fall of Junior year..
Students will receive a letter of eligibility with their 4th marking period report card at the end of the sophomore year. GPAs will not be rounded. Students who receive the letter are encouraged to look through the NHS website and review the bylaws and the application process. Students are also strongly recommended to work towards accumulating some community service hours over the summer. The complete application packet will be given out after school starts in August.

Students who do not meet the GPA requirement are encouraged to work towards improving their GPA as they will have a chance to apply again in the fall of Senior year.

Any questions should be directed to NHS Advisors Mrs. Setty and Mrs. Dunbar.
