Group Guidance Lessons

The purpose of group guidance lessons at Newark Charter School is to provide students with a comprehensive developmental curriculum. The curriculum parallels the national standards as outline by the American School Counseling Association. These standards focus on academic, career, and social/interpersonal needs for all students.
Guidance lesson topics may include:

  • Anti-Bullying

  • Careers

  • Character Development

  • Communication

  • Conflict Management

  • Feelings

  • Friendship

  • Safety Awareness

  • Self-Esteem

  • Study Skills/Listening Skills

After each lesson, students take home a letter outlining the lesson objective and activities.

Individual and Small Group Counseling

As part of our guidance program at Newark Charter Elementary School, we often work with students individually and in small groups. Individual and small group support may include:

  • Offering support for students who are going through a family transition.

  • Helping students recognize their strengths, talents, and interests.

  • Helping students build friendship skills.

  • Helping students build healthy social skills and peer relationships.

  • Helping students build problem solving skills in the classroom.

Individual counseling support is provided as needed. Small counseling group topics are based on the needs of the students.

Character Education Program

The Character Program is a school-wide program designed to promote good character. Each month has a designated character trait, such as responsibility, cooperation, respect, caring etc. Newark Charter School Staff will be catching students showing good character throughout the school year. Students will be recognized by our administration, given a certificate, and have their name printed in the school bulletin, as well as in our first floor main lobby.
