A historic day for NCS students

National History Day is a culmination of a year-long history education program where students engage in research and interpretation of historical topics related to a theme of their choosing.   It’s also a competition, and 36 sophomores and juniors from NCHS participated in the 2016 National History Day competition.  At the competition, students create and present historical projects in one of the following categories: documentary, exhibit, paper, performance, or website.NCHS had the best overall results at the competition, with students placing in six of the ten categories.  Eleven students qualified for the National Competition held in College Park, Maryland in June.The following students medaled in the competition and qualified for Nationals: Dana Wilkins (1st Place Individual Documentary),Melissa Lewis (1st Place Individual Performance), Olivia Skaug and Erin Dickert (1st Place Group Documentary), Michael Chen and Nicholas Lewis (2nd Place Group Documentary), Elizabeth Zacharia Addie Morgado, and Alexandra Narvaez (2nd Place Group Website), Daniel Chajes (2nd Place Individual Documentary), Bobby Badiey (2nd Place Individual Website), Vyshnavi Kosigishroff (3rd Place Individual Exhibit). The following students won special award recognition: MacKenzie Mills (Best Colonial Era Project), Abigail McCann (Best Women’s History Project), Charmy Patel, Hannah Melba, and Rhea Rawal (Best American Innovation Project).
