Jude McGough is first-ever Division 1 signee
Senior Jude McGough became Newark Charter High School’s first-ever Division 1 signee when she inked her NCAA National Letter of Intent to play softball at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. McGough, an honorable mention All-State selection last year when she batted .475, leads off and plays shortstop for the Patriots, but isn’t sure where she’ll play in college. “They recruit a lot of shortstops because they’re the most athletic players on the field,” explained McGough, who plans to major in exercise science. “They can put me anywhere, and I’ll be okay with that.” McGough is a stellar student and very involved in the community. She has maintained a 4.2 GPA while taking AP and honors classes, is a member of the National Honor Society, volunteers for the Food Bank of Delaware, and is also the manager of Newark Charter’s first Special Olympics Unified flag football team.
