U.S. Department of Education awards NCS its 2nd Blue Ribbon
The U.S. Department of Education announced in September that Newark Charter School has been named a 2016 National Blue Ribbon School for the second time. Newark Charter School is among 279 public and 50 private schools receiving this honor this year. NCS also received this prestigious recognition in 2010. Fewer than one-eighth of one percent of all schools receive this honor twice.Since 1982, The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors schools where students achieve very high learning standards or are making notable improvements in closing the achievement gap. Last fall, Mr. Meece and Dean of Instruction Jessica Browne represented Newark Charter School at an awards ceremony in Arlington, Virginia. A special Blue Ribbon Committee of students, teachers and parents created a year-long plan to celebrate this honor. Examples of activities include special Dress Blue Days, “Our NCS Family” photos framing the Blue Ribbon Banners hanging in each building, classroom doors decorated using the Blue Ribbon theme and a dance party at recess with DJ and songs with “Blue” in the title.
