Natalie Nwanekwu serves as Girls State Governor
Few leaders can say they were elected twice in one year. For Newark Charter senior Natalie Nwanekwu, however, leadership roles seem to come naturally. After being elected student council president this spring, Natalie was selected as governor of the Girls State program held this summer. The annual event, sponsored by the Delaware American Legion, brings students from around the state to Dover to learn how government works. “It was an absolute honor to serve as the Governor of Girls State,” said Natalie. “The program allowed me to become more confident, more passionate, and more driven towards public service. I had the opportunity to truly uncover my innate leadership qualities and make friends with some of the most brilliant girls across Delaware,” she said. “Natalie is a natural leader,” said Brent Freccia, chair of the school’s Social Studies Department. “Her seemingly effortless charm allows people to feel comfortable reflecting on issues and sharing possible solutions.”
