Newark Charter swam to five first-place finishes at the University of Delaware's Rawstrom Natatorium in February to capture the school’s first swimming state championship. Coach Kurtis Whitman said, “My message to this group of girls prior to the final meet was to be yourself, leave everything that you have in the pool, but more than anything, have fun. I told them that what they had done this whole year had gotten them to this point, and that they didn't need to change a thing at that meet. Continue to swim exactly how you had swam all season long, and the results will show. And they did.”Accolades for Emma Menzer The NCS junior posted two individual victories during the state championships, helped the Patriots win the team title at the DIAA Swimming and Diving Championships and was named Delaware’s Girls Swimmer of the Year.
