Intermediate School Final Steps to Prepare for 9/8
Good Afternoon, Intermediate School Families,
Newark Charter School is closed on Friday and Monday for Labor Day and school officially starts on Tuesday. That makes today the last official day of the 2020 Summer Vacation! Although we would much rather see your children walk into the building on Tuesday, we are still very excited to see them in our virtual classrooms.
On this last day of summer vacation, we wanted to send an email with some last minute housekeeping items.
Collection of School Materials
While we were only able to see families briefly and through the car window, it was wonderful to see everyone yesterday for material distribution. If you could not make it yesterday, please make arrangements by calling the main office as soon as possible.
Preparing for Online Learning
In order to ensure that Tuesday goes as smoothly as possible, we suggest the following:
-
Be sure your child's Chromebook is fully charged
-
Be sure to have your child's login information readily available
-
Be sure to have your child’s schedule readily available
-Your child will have a few minutes in between each class to stretch, use the bathroom and get a quick drink. However, they will need to know which class they need to log into for the next period.
-As a reminder for the first week Tuesday, September 8th and Thursday September 10th are A days while Wednesday, September 9th and Friday, September 11th are B Days. -
Your child should be learning in a place that is as free as possible from distractions
-
Your child should have their agenda book and any other requested materials handy
-
Your child is required to be in an NCS uniform
-
Encourage your child to adopt the mindset that even though they are at home, they need to follow all school expectations.
-Take time over the weekend to review the Student and Parent Agreements (found in the agenda book on page 4), the NCS Code of Conduct (also found in the agenda book) and the Virtual Addendum that was sent home yesterday.
Accessing the Virtual Classrooms
1) Log into Schoology
2) Click “Courses”
3) After referencing your child’s schedule, click the title of the corresponding course at the designated time
4) At the top of the page, you will find a link that will take you to “Zoom” where the live learning will take place.
5) You will repeat steps 3 and 4 each time you enter the live learning for each class.
6) In the event that your child can not attend the live learning, your child will need to access the uploaded lessons for each of their courses and complete the learning activity/assurance that corresponds to each course. All recorded lessons can be found in Schoology within each course.
For more detailed instructions, please see the Schoology - Parent Resources Handout that was distributed with the students’ materials.
During the long weekend, we strongly encourage you to log into Schoology and try out these steps.
If you need additional assistance, send an email to parent.support@ncs.k12.de.us and a member of the NCS Technology Department will assist you. I would ask you to keep in mind that the Technology Department will do everything possible to respond to all families as quickly as possible, however the task that is in front of them is massive. I thank you on their behalf for your patience.
In closing, the Intermediate School faculty is excited to start kick of the 2020 - 2021 school year.
Be well.
