Patriot Profiles - Mark McKenzie
Mark McKenzie joined the NCS family as a parent in 2007 when his son, Mark, enrolled in 3rd grade in the Primary School that opened that year. At the time, Mark worked in the Pathology Department at Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City and recalls a favorite memory of bringing artificial bones in to share with little Mark’s class. “I also enjoyed field days, class trips to Washington DC, talent night and all the basketball games!”
Mark attributes much of the success of his children to Newark Charter School. “Mark and Madison are where they are today because of NCS. Mark with soccer and Madison with dance – I owe a debt of gratitude to all of our teachers and support staff.” Mark shared, “The camaraderie amongst staff, the commitment to excellence, engaged parents, the rigor in the curricula, the life skills students experience, the connection NCS fosters with student and encouraging students to dream big” attribute to the success of all NCS students.
We were sad to see the McKenzie family graduate from NCS with their daughter Madison in 2021, but imagine our excitement later that summer when Mark joined Newark Charter School as the assistant principal of the Jr/Sr High School! With experience as a classroom teacher and student advocate, Mark has made a seamless transition to NCS. “The opportunity to be a part of a great administrative team and being an assistant principal of a number one charter school. Wow, I am truly humbled!”
Our school is a better place because of Mark McKenzie!
