Dept. of Education leader to head NCS learning supports

Jill Scannell has returned to Newark Charter School to lead the school’s special education department and other academic support programs for students. From 2005 to 2011 Mrs. Scannell taught special education at NCS. Since then, she has had leadership roles in special education, both in Christina and Appoquinimink districts. In 2015 she joined Delaware Department of Education as education associate for Exceptional Children Resources where she supervised several statewide programs and initiatives related to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. Her children attend Newark Charter School. “This school holds a very special place in my heart,” said Mrs. Scannell. “I have always loved the culture of community, family, and academics that NCS is known for, and I am thrilled to return in an administrative role as the Director of Learning Support,” she said.
